Are looking into applying for a job?  Do you need to put your CV together? A curriculum vitae provides employers with an overview of you.  It  includes your experience, education, and other qualifications.  When screening to fill a position, companies use the CV to match who is best for the job.  If your CV grabs some attention, an interview is usually what follows.  For this reason a well thought out, well written CV is crucial to the job hunting process.  How do you compose a CV?  What about your CV references?  Read on to be sure your CV has all that it needs to get you noticed.

To begin, most formats suggest to have your name and contact information first.  This is a good idea.  The next couple of sections can be switched around  depending on what you think may be best suited for the position you are after.  Some choose to list their education first.  If the job you are applying for requires a degree or you are fresh out of school, this may be best to write in first.  Following the section on your education, you will want to list your experience.  However, depending on the job, listing your experience first- especially if you have a great record may prove beneficial and get your CV noticed.  Also, keep in mind that when listing your experience, the list should begin with the most recent.  Next you should list any awards, accolades, interests and others things that are pertinent to the position you are after.

The last thing that you need to put together is your references.  Include personal and business references.  Don’t make the list so long that it is overwhelming to whoever is reviewing your CV.  You may want to also bring a copy to your interview.  Some opt to have their CV references on a separate sheet of paper.  You can decide for yourself which is best.
